36th Annual Fish Creek Excavation Jackson Town Downhill Set

by Jackson Hole. Media
Get ready for a new twist on the legendary Town Downhill!  Due to lower than average snow depths on the upper sections of the traditional course at Snow King Mountain, this year’s iconic speed event will be held at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village.  Although recent snow has greatly improved the upper mountain conditions at Snow King, the decision to move, or possibly cancel the event had to be made weeks ago.

This will be the first time in the “Mini-Hahnenkamm’s” 36 year history that the race will take place away from it’s home. We want to give a huge thanks to JHMR for keeping the event alive and their continued support of the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club!  The race will take place on the downhill-homologated Crags/Moran race course off of Teton lift with plans of returning to Snow King in 2019.

“The course is in incredible condition and offers all the speed and excitement that we love about the Mini-Hahnenkamm,” said Rick Hunt, veteran Town Downhiller and owner of Fish Creek Excavation.

The race coincides with College Rendezvous weekend at JHMR, so there will be free outdoor concerts each afternoon post-race under the Aerial Tram. Registration is open at jhskiclub.org/towndownhill.  Registration numbers are up and we are looking at potentially selling out, so get registered today to take part in this beloved Jackson Hole tradition.

Also new this year, the “Open Pro” division has been changed to “Men’s Pro” and will receive equal prize money as the “Women’s Pro” division:

  • 1st = $1000
  • 2nd = $500
  • 3rd = $250

Other divisions include amateur, snowboard, telemark, fat & baggy, and junior’s.
