Treasurer Mark Gordon released the following statement today after the official dedication of the Wyoming Integrated Test Center (ITC), a public-private partnership designed to foster the next generation of energy technology.

“We in Wyoming are committed to solutions that ensure the long-term viability of our vast natural resources – including coal. The Wyoming ITC is a terrific example of the state’s leadership and commitment to market-driven solutions. I applaud the leadership of Governor Mead and the Wyoming State Legislature in seeing this important project through to completion.”

“It’s not enough for Wyoming to just be a part of the future of energy production, we need to drive it. This means positioning ourselves as the leader in advanced energy technologies including Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) and new carbon-to-product markets. The ITC is an important step in launching Wyoming onto the national stage as an energy innovator. With tenants from Canada, China, India, the United Kingdom, the United States as well as Kawasaki Heavy Industries from Japan, Gillette is now positioned to be the epicenter for Carbon Capture, Utilization and Sequestration (CCUS) technologies.”

“Be it coal, oil, gas, uranium or wind, Wyoming has the opportunity to take the reins and shape the future of all our natural resources. By fostering the next generation of energy technology in Wyoming, we can utilize the talents and experts already here and grow Wyoming’s workforce – creating jobs and providing new and exciting opportunities for current and future generations. When we talk about growing and diversifying our economy, energy will continue to be an important piece of the puzzle. Through technology, we can capture more of the value chain and spur new industries right here at home.”
