Game and Fish Proposes Updates To Platte Valley Mule Deer Range Map,

by Jackson Hole. Media

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is proposing updates to the seasonal range map for the Platte Valley mule deer herd unit. The proposed update includes designating ungulate migration corridors, stopover areas and migration bottlenecks. Comments will be accepted online until June 22 at midnight mountain time.

Information about the proposal including the proposed map is available online. The proposal was developed based on results from a movement study led by the University of Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit. From 2011-2013, 55 female mule deer in the Platte Valley herd unit were fitted with GPS radio collars to document important areas used for seasonal migration. Once a corridor receives designation Game and Fish works with partners to do a risk assessment of conservation for that corridor and then uses that assessment to provide comments to land managers.
