A driver of a van crossing Teton Pass Saturday can count himself as fortunate after he lost control of his vehicle and it rolled off the edge of the road just east of the summit, and came to rest on its side just shy of a sizable drop-off.
According to Wyoming Highway Patrol Trooper Damon Bowen, the unidentified driver says he swerved to avoid hitting a deer, crossed the center line, overcorrected and went off the right shoulder.
Trooper Bowen says the soft soil in the area held the vehicle from tumbling farther down the mountainside. Rescue personnel from Jackson/Teton County Fire and EMS responded and secured the scene.
The driver, who was the lone occupant suffered only minor injuries in the wreck. Trooper Bowen says it appears the driver was traveling too fast at the time of the wreck.
