Table Mountain Rescue

by Jackson Hole Radio News

Teton County Search and Rescue responded late yesterday afternoon to a church group hiking to the summit of Table Mountain after two of their members became incapacitated.

Search and Rescue Chief Advisor Cody Lockhart says the group of 36 individuals set out from Teton Canyon on the Idaho side of the Tetons and nearly made it to the top. However a short distance from the top, a 32-year-old man suffered from altitude sickness and could not proceed up or down. A short time later, a 17-year-old female fell about ½ mile from the summit and injured her lower leg and could not proceed.

The group called for help about 4:00 pm and the search and rescue team called for the interagency helicopter that was working on a small fire in the Snake River Canyon to ferry rescuers to the scene. They were able to package the injured individuals and transport them off the mountain by helicopter, and they were taken to Teton Valley hospital for treatment.
