Check Smoke Detectors

by Jackson Hole Radio News

As homeowners prepare to keep their homes warm during the colder months ahead, it might be good to consider how long their smoke alarms have been in service. Teton County Fire Marshal Kathy Clay points out that smoke detectors generally have a 10-year life expectancy.

Clay recommends having a smoke alarm in each bedroom, in the hallway as well as in the common areas of the house. Additionally, Clay says the family should review their escape plan to assure each member of the family knows multiple routes of escape and agrees on a rendezvous spot outside the home.
