Two men, whose identities have not been released, will face criminal charges for walking onto Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park last week. The men were photographed by bystanders who notified park rangers of the infraction. One picture posted on Facebook showed one of the two men leaning over to take a picture down the throat of the geyser. Park officials say the men have been summoned to appear in federal court in December where they will be charged with thermal trespassing. Going off boardwalks in Yellowstone’s thermal areas is not only prohibited, it is dangerous. Old Faithful erupts with boiling hot water about once every hour, but not with pinpoint accuracy. Several people have been cited over the years for wandering out to the cone of Old Faithful, and several others have been seriously burned by falling or stepping into other park thermal features.
