Jackson Police are investigating a hit and run accident that occurred Saturday morning at approximately 4:07 am on south Hwy 89 at Meadowlark Lane.  29-year-old Jorge Moreno-Castro was riding a bicycle in that area when struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on the highway.  Following the collision, the vehicle fled in an unknown direction leaving Moreno-Castro injured lying in the traffic lane. Motorists passing by a few moments later called police and assisted Moreno-Castro until officers and paramedics arrived. Moreno-Castro was taken by ambulance to St. John’s Hospital in Jackson with serious injuries. Investigations indicate that the suspect vehicle is a 1992-96 Red Honda Prelude or similar vehicle. The vehicle likely sustained front end and possibly side damage as a result of striking Moreno-Castro.  Officers would like to speak with anyone who was in that area at the time of the accident and may have seen Moreno-Castro or the hit-and-run vehicle. Officers can be contacted by calling 733-2331.  Crimestoppers is also offering a reward of up to $5000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible for the crime.  Tips may be submitted online at the police department webpage or may be phoned to 733-5148.
