Local Fire Crews Traveling
With major fires now burning in the states west of here, crews from Teton Interagency Fire are being rotated into the firefighting effort – but nothing out of the ordinary. Bridger Teton National Forest Spokesperson Mary Cernicek explains that the sharing of resources between states and agencies is general operating procedure throughout the fire season, in part as a way to keep the crews on the lines fresh. She points out that fire crews from throughout the west were brought in to assist on the 100-square mile Fontenelle Fire west of Big Piney prior to wildfires breaking out elsewhere. Meanwhile, C-130 aircraft equipped with the Mobile Airborne Fire Fighting System have been requested from the Wyoming Air National Guard to be deployed out of the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho to the western fires as needed.
