Refuge Centennial Termed A Success
The National Elk Refuge centennial celebration is behind us now and is being considered a major success by its organizers. The opening event last Friday was attended by Wyoming Governor Matt Mead, US Fish and Wildlife Service Director Dan Ashe, a variety of local dignitaries, and about 250 members of the public. The days that followed werehighlighted by performances by a Theodore Roosevelt impersonator, an historical slide show from the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum, a bicycle tour hosted by Friends of Pathways, craft demonstrations at the historical Miller House, and reminiscence by four of the refuge managers from 1966 to present. Refuge Manager Steve Kallin terms the celebration as an appropriate way to highlight the importance of the National Elk Refuge to the Jackson Community.
