Motorcyclist Dies in Yellowstone
A head-on collision late Tuesday afternoon in Yellowstone National Park claimed the life of a motorcyclist from northeast Wyoming. The accident occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. between Madison Junction and the Gibbon Falls overlook. 52-year-old James Michael Cody of Wright, Wyoming, was declared dead at the scene. According to a Park report, a sport utility vehicle traveling southbound crossed the centerline of the road on a crest of a hill and entered the path of three oncoming motorcycles. Cody, who was in the lead, had no time to react and was struck and killed instantly. Park investigators say the other riders, who were traveling behind Cody, were able to lay their motorcycles down on their sides and avoid colliding with the SUV. One of other motorcyclists was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Officials say the accident is still under investigation.
