An employee housing project in Grand Teton National Park at Moose is to receive Platinum certification in the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Homes program.  Spokesperson Jackie Skaggs says this project provides new affordable and sustainable housing for Grand Teton National Park employees and reduces the park’s impact on the limited affordable housing market in the town of Jackson.  Skaggs says in addition to being environmentally efficient buildings, the new housing project brings employees closer to their workplaces and cuts the need for a longer commute.  She says 75% of the employees are duty-stationed in Moose.  Furthermore, placement of 28 two-bedroom, two-bath apartments within the existing developed housing complex prevented an increase in the developed footprint and associated impacts to the “viewshed” and wildlife habitat. This placement also allowed the project to take advantage of existing road and utility infrastructure.
