Progress Made On North Buffalo Fire
Cooler temperatures and a quarter inch of rain enabled firefighters to make significant progress on the North Buffalo Fire north of Moran over the long weekend. The primary focus and critical area of response was securing the west perimeter of the fire to limit movement west, towards Buffalo Valley. The crews report that that portion of the fire is now “contained” and are confident that the line along the western perimeter of the fire will hold. The North Buffalo Fire is estimated to involve 13,727 acres. Forecasts for continued drying in the upcoming week raise concerns that the fire activity will increase, but fire officials hope and growth will continue to move north and east away from Buffalo Valley and into the Teton Wilderness.
