Firefighting Efforts Continue

Fire crews will continue the battle against the Little Horsethief Fire which began yesterday afternoon and forced the evacuation of Deer and Elk Drives and a portion of the Little Horsethief Subdivision.

While those evacuation orders were lifted last night. Authorities warned residents that they might be reissued at anytime and that people who lived in Game Creek should also be prepared for a possible evacuation.

Fire officials flew over the scene and have declared the blaze a Type 2 incident which indicates a high level of complexity and allows the interagency team to call in additional resources to help fight the fire.

Several fire-retardant air tankers, helicopters and ground crews worked the fire yesterday and crews conducted night operations.

There were reports that one fire-fighting vehicle was destroyed in the fire, but no personnel were injured.

Officials will conduct a briefing this morning.
