Red flag conditions are anticipated in Jackson Hole this afternoon and firefighters will be making a renewed aerial attack on the Little Horsethief fire this morning.

No evacuation orders are in effect at this time, but authorities are reminding residents to be prepared to evacuate affected areas like Game Creek should that need arise. Fire officials said “If you need to leave your home, ask yourself the question ‘What if I couldn’t return?’” noting that an evacuation notice could come quickly.

Public safety officials also asked drivers on Highway 89 to be particularly aware of distracted drivers due to the amount of firefighting activity in the area.

Few details were available, but it was confirmed that one fire engine was destroyed last night by fire. No injuries were reported.

Crews will be working to keep the fire away from any populated areas and The Bridger – Teton National Forest has closed the Cache-Game Creek loop area including the Cache Creek Trail, the Game Creek trail and all area within the perimeter of that loop up to the Forest Boundary. The area is closed for public safety as fire managers continue to suppress the Little Horse Thief fire
