Burn-out Puts Up Large Smoke Plume
Firefighters have been conducting burn out operations in the Five Meadow area on the Little Horsethief Canyon Fire to reinforce control lines. Smoke from the operation has been clearly visible from Jackson and surrounding areas. A burn out consumes all potential fuel a fire may use as it marches forward. By lighting strategic fires ahead of the forest fire crews can make a border around a fire by eliminating all the dead, down, and dry matter in which a fire thrives. Even though this afternoon’s operation has put up a lot of smoke, fire officials assure it has been the result of planned activity.
