Comment Period Extended
The National Park Service has extended the public review process for the Colter Bay Visitor Services Plan/Environmental Assessment. The plan/EA was to have been open for public review for 30 days from August 15th to September 13th, but Park Spokesperson Jackie Skaggs says that comment period has been extended through September 24th. Skaggs says it has become increasingly difficult to operate and maintain the visitor center at Colter Bay due to its age, condition, and numerous critical system deficiencies. The visitor center has also been the home of the David T. Vernon Collection of American Indian Art, but the center does not meet minimum museum standards for the preservation of the collection and it has been placed into temporary storage at the Park Service Western Archeological and Conservation Center in Tucson, Arizona until a suitable facility can be built here.
