New Sublette County Wildfire Brings Evacuations (UPDATE)

A new wildfire northwest of Daniel Junction has led to the evacuations of residences near Merna.  The Chall Creek Fire started shortly before 2:30 pm Sunday afternoon from an undetermined cause and was reportedly burning in timber and sage.  Currently, the fire involves about 200 acres.  The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office has closed the Daniel/Merna Road for public safety.  Initial resources responding included 4 engines, 6 smoke-jumpers, 1 Type I helicopter, 2 Type III helicopters, and air attack.  Structure protection is currently underway and additional resources have been ordered which are en-route to the fire.
