Optimism Dominates Fire Lines

fire downtown

Secure fire lines and a shift to cooler weather have led to a relaxation of defense modes that have been in place for the last week in the southeast corner of Jackson.  The hose and pumps that were laid out in Jackson are being removed by crews today. Additionally, limited access for some local businesses will be arranged with Safety Officer escorts.  Taking advantage of cooler temperatures, increased air moisture, and decreased winds, firefighters expect to make swift progress in the completion of fire line construction on the eastern portions of the fire.  In the Game Creek and Porcupine Creek subdivisions, structure protection measures will remain in place while crews improve those lines and extinguish pockets of heat in the Wilson Creek drainage. Depending on weather conditions and fire behavior, fire managers say they may consider burnout operations later in the week to strengthen the perimeter.
