Modern Family Jackson Show Awarded
The annual Emmy awards are still a week away, but special awards for technical and creative merit have been presented already, and one went to the Modern Family episode shot in Jackson Hole last year. Modern Family won for outstanding Sound Mixing in the half hour division while Game of Thrones won in the hour-long division and Hemingway & Gellhorn was awarded in the miniseries division. The awards were presented at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles last weekend. The Dude Ranch Episode shot in Jackson Hole opened the show’s third season last September, and actually was broadcast a total of five times during the course of the year, drawing audiences averaging 15-million viewers each time. Jackson Hole had originally been eliminated as a location due to the costs of shooting here in August during the height of tourist season. However, at the last minute, the local lodging tax fund stepped in to help “level the playing field” in order to successfully compete in consideration with other western states for the location. Since then, tourism interests here have been excited about the exposure it has brought for the area.
