Fire Suppression Winding Down

Suppression efforts on the Little Horsethief Canyon Fire continue to dwindle as the fire itself continues to cool.  Currently, 211 individuals aided by two helicopters and four fire engines continue mopping up and completing the last of the fire lines around the 3373 acre fire – which as of Sunday afternoon were 96% contained.  At the same time, the crew camp at the Stilson Ranch area at the junction of Highways 22 and 390 has been struck and crews have relocated to the Teton County Fairgrounds for the remainder of the effort.  Those crews have been transitioned to a Type 4 team whose task will be to monitor the fire in the coming weeks until it can be declared out.  Cost of the fire suppression to date has totaled $8.4-million.

  • Don’t let snakes ruin your Labor Day - September 1, 2014
In my opinion, everybody should go hunting each weekend of the hunting season. You don’t have to go after elk or deer every time. Change it up a little. Hunt doves on the first weekend, then try to get a blue grouse or two the next. Later in the fall, you can start working duck […]

The Wyoming Cowboys open up their football season at home against Montana tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon in Laramie.  It’s the first meeting between the two schools since 1997, and the Grizzlies enter the game as the fifth-ranked team in the FCS. On defense, the Cowboys top priority is to stop the run.  With a talented quarterback […]
  • Warmer Temperatures With Isolated Thunderstorms Expected Today - August 29, 2014
A weak ridge of high pressure will build over the region today, which will allow temperatures to become warmer and closer to average statewide.  However, some lingering low-level moisture and daytime heating could trigger a few hit or miss thunderstorms for the afternoon and early evening hours.  Gusty winds and lots of lightning will be […]
  • GPS will sometimes lead you to astray - August 29, 2014
At the risk of sounding like I’ve been watching too much Top Gear, I need to go off on a bit of a rant right now. The good folks at Nissan let me drive a Titan for two full months, which was really nice of them. And it’s done a pretty good job of filling […]
