Prescribed Burn Called Off
A project that was to have involved the prescribed burn on a 6700 acre parcel in the Hill Creek area north of Darby Canyon has been called off for the year. The target area would have been about four miles east of Driggs, and would have had the potential of producing smoke that would have made its way into Jackson Hole as well. However, Caribou-Targhee National Forest Spokesman Lynn Ballard says approval of the project by those in charge of smoke management for the forest turned the project down several times because of weather conditions, and with the dwindling of firefighting resources at the end of the season; it was determined to put the project off for another year. Located just inside Wyoming, the multi-year project is being conducted in partnership with Wyoming Game and Fish, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, and the Wyoming Wildlife and Natural Resource Trust.
