Wolf Hunt Areas Close
Wyoming Game and Fish closed that Gray Wolf Hunt Area #6 in the Jackson Management Unit Friday and Area #4 in the Absaroka Management Unit Sunday after the mortality quotas of three wolves was reached in each. Those areas each had a quota of three wolves that could be taken as trophy game. Game and Fish Spokesman Al Langston explains that wolf seasons close in hunt areas where the species is classified as a trophy game animal when the mortality quota is reached or when the season closes on Dec. 31st. At last report, nine animals had been taken in the Jackson area including five of seven possible in area 8 and one of two in area 9. Altogether 23 wolves having trophy game status have been killed by hunters statewide out of the 52 that are permitted this year. 55 have been killed in Idaho and 12 have been killed in Montana.
