Forest To Burn Slash Piles
With the wintery storm that passed through the area this week, Bridger Teton National Forest and the Teton Interagency Fire crews plan to ignite slash piles from fuels reduction projects in the East Table area of the Snake River Canyon, in the Ann Mountain, Willow Creek and Granite Creek Drainages, along Fall Creek Road and at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Forest Spokesperson Mary Cernicek says the project is a technique used by forest managers to reduce hazardous fuels and reduce the likelihood of extreme fire behavior during an unplanned fire in treated areas, creating a safer situation for the community and firefighters. Cernicek says smoke from these burns will likely be visible and may settle into low-lying areas for the period of the burns.
