County Hosts Pumpkin Recycling Event
For the second year, residents of Teton County will have an option for the disposal of their jack-o-lantern rather than simply throwing it into a dumpster. Through Teton County Integrated Solid Waste and Recycling in cooperation with Terra Firma Organics the used-up pumpkins will turned into compost at the Great Pumpkin Round-Up Saturday. From 10:00 am – 3:00 pm residents are encouraged to bring their jack-o-lanterns to the Teton County Rodeo Grounds to dispose of the gord and participate in pumpkin squashing activities, treats and prizes as well. ISWR Division Chief Heather Overholser says last year the county collected 4,120 pounds of pumpkins which were composted by Terra Firma Organics rather than thrown in a landfill. She says she anticipates even more this year. Terra Firma Organics sells its finished compost at the trash transfer station, as well as at local gardening retailers.
