Those passing by the Teton County/Jackson Parks & Recreation Center may have noticed work under way on the roof of the complex.  Park  and Rec. officials say the work involves a Solar Thermal System on the entire roof of the Recreation Center Gym and a portion of the Aquatic Center roof. The new system is designed to heat water for the Lap Pool, Leisure Pool, and Therapy Pool.  The 260,000 gallons of water in the three pools have been heated using natural gas and Park and Rec. officials the new system will aid in heating the pools and decrease the natural gas consumption. The Parks and Recreation Department spends approximately $130,000 annually on natural gas for heating those pools the new system is projected to reduce natural gas usage by 30%. Based on the current cost of natural gas, this system is expected to pay for itself by 2023.
