Early Snow Below Average
Despite winter advisories over the weekend and a fair amount of grumbling from some about the first snow of the season, the accumulation in the region’s river basins does not come up to average yet. According to the Natural Resources Conservation Service, snow accumulation in the Snake River Basin is only 83% of the 30-year average, the accumulation in the Madison-Gallatin basin is 78% of average and in the Wind River Basin, it is 89% of average. Forecasters say the chance of additional snow in any measurable amount is minimal for the rest of this week. Currently, Jackson Hole Mountain resort reports 15 inches of snow at the summit and Grand Targhee reports 25 inches at its summit.
