Local Drive Seeks “Coats For Sandy”

Scenes in the media coming back from the storm-ravaged East Coast have moved a former resident of that area to launch a drive in Jackson Hole to amass coats and other clothing to send for those facing wintery weather after having lost everything.  Dan Caruso says in many cases, those impacted by the storm were left with only the clothes on their backs.  He says he is hoping to get coats, blankets, extra work clothes people may not need, and raise enough money to purchase toothbrushes and laundry supplies to care for what little they currently have to wear. Caruso says he has gotten excellent response from those businesses in town where he has asked to put up posters; including items to be auctioned off at a fundraiser November 28th.  Those funds will help pay for the truck to take the items collected to New Jersey.  He says it is hope the truck can leave for the East Coast by the end of November and head for Seaside Heights or another town in that vicinity where the storm hit hardest.  Caruso says items can be dropped off at collection points set up at Blue Spruce Cleaners, Peak Glass, JB Mechanical, Action Snowmobile and RV, the Elks Lodge, the Recreation Center, Dream Chasers in Driggs – and on Wednesday, he says he will be collecting donations in front of Smith’s Foods in Jackson.  Caruso says those not having coats or blankets to donate may opt to donate money which can then be used to purchase items to meet the needs.
