The infamous French General Napoleon Bonaparte is arguably credited as once saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”   When it comes to summarizing current weather conditions, that concept couldn’t be truer; especially as wintery weather moves into Wyoming.  Recently, the National Weather Service Office in Rivertonin conjunction with the Wyoming Department of Transportation launched a link on the weather service website that connects the website user with a collective of webcams in a variety of geographic areas around the state.  They have posted 29 links in the Jackson Hole area and 14 in the vicinity of Yellowstone National Park – all accessed directly from their site.  Major highways in Wyoming have been organized by route and links have also been provided to cameras in surrounding states.  Chris Jones, warning coordination meteorologist at the Riverton office, says that initial feedback has been positive. He says those commenting have said they like that town and place names are provided along with the route number, and that they can quickly glance through all the webcams along their intended route. The link to the webcams is located along with links to Wyoming road reports and avalanche information at the bottom of the page containing the National Weather Service zone forecast.

  • If you’re going to hunt rabbits, this is your year - October 2, 2014
The rabbit populations in the state are going crazy. I have a degree in zoology, so I feel I’m qualified to estimate the number of cottontails hopping around Wyoming. My best estimate is zillions. OK, so maybe my methods for determining the rabbit numbers aren’t exactly scientific. But there are a lot of ‘em. There […]
  • Colder Today With Rain Showers And Mountain Snow - October 1, 2014
A cold front and weather system will push through the state of Wyoming early today.  Scattered rain showers will be possible statewide across lower elevations, but the best chance will be in northern and southeastern Wyoming.  Rain showers could become heavy at times, especially in southeastern parts of the state in the afternoon and evening.  […]
  • Today’s a big day for hunters in Wyoming - October 1, 2014
If you’re really serious about hunting, you’re probably not listening to this. Depending on where you are in the state, the sun’s either up already or sunrise isn’t far away. If you’re a die-hard hunter, you’re probably already hunkered down in a field waiting for the geese to come in, out in the timber trying […]
  • Not all bad news in judge’s decision to relist wolves - September 30, 2014
U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson handed down a ruling last week that removed wolves from Wyoming control and put them back under the protection of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. That ruling put an end to hunting wolves anywhere in the state, whether they’re in the trophy game area in the northwestern corner […]
