Grizzly Bear Shot By Hunters In GTNP
Grand Teton National Park officials say a party of three hunters participating in the Elk Reduction Program in Grand Teton National Park encountered, shot and killed an adult male grizzly bear around 7:30 am THursday. The incident was reported to Teton Interagency Dispatch Center at 7:32 am. The hunters say the bear charged them prior to the shooting. The incident occurred along the east side of the Snake River between Schwabachers Landing and Teton Point Overlook. None of the hunters were injured. A team of law enforcement rangers, park biologists and park science and resource management personnel are conducting an investigation into the incident. A cow elk carcass was discovered near where the incident occurred. The unnamed group was comprised of three men from Wyoming, ages 48, 20 and 17. Until further notice, a half mile area closure as been imposed around site of the incident and the elk carcass.
