Plane Wreckage Located In Sublette County

Upper Hoback Terrain

Searchers in Sublette County Saturday located the wreckage of a private plane that had been missing since last Saturday, and the body of the pilot and lone occupant of the plane when it crashed.  According to Spokesman Steve Smith, the wreckage was spotted about 11:40 am from the Teton County Search and Rescue Helicopter which had been assisting in the search.  Members of the Tip Top Search and Rescue Team from Sublette County hiked into the crash scene to determine whether or not 63-year-old Myles McGinnis of LaBarge had survived the crash.  Searchers plan to return to the scene Sunday to remove McGinnis’ body from the aircraft.  The plane’s wreckage was found about 1 ½ miles south of the last radar contact in what searchers describe as very rugged terrain in the Upper Hoback.  Smith says high winds and warmer temperatures over the last two days helped reveal the aircraft which had been covered with accumulated snow following the crash.  Smith says the search was a joint effort by the rescue teams of Sublette, Teton and Lincoln Counties, the Civil Air Patrol, members of Classic Helicopters and other local pilots.
