Pathway Closed Near Middle School

Approximately 250 feet of the pathway along Middle School Road were closed yesterday for construction work to realign a portion of a piped irrigation ditch that runs underground adjacent to the pathway. The piped ditch has become obstructed by roots and vegetation over the past 5-10 years, which has resulted in routine flooding on the pathway when irrigators drew water through the ditch. Initial work began on Wednesday and is expected to take 1-2 weeks. City crews will excavate the irrigation ditch west of Middle School Road and realign it slightly east and north so that it will temporarily run as an open ditch where the pathway is currently located. A new pipe will be installed and the trench will be filled back in, likely within the first phase of work, but the pathway itself will remain closed through spring 2013 until weather permits replacement of the asphalt pathway surface.
