Junior Mushers Being Selected
The 18th annual International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race is approaching in a matter of a few weeks, and as part of the event, students age 9 to 13 will be selected from the race communities of Jackson, Lander, Alpine, Pinedale, Big Piney, Marbleton, Kemmerer, and Diamondville, Wyoming, and West Yellowstone, Montana to participate in a sled dog race of their own, at the February 2nd conclusion of the race in Evanston, Wyoming. In order to participate in the junior race, students agree to perform 10 hours of community service work prior to the race and donate $25 to the nonprofit Uinta County Community Youth Coalition. Race organizers say it is an opportunity for kids to participate in an internationally recognized event, learn the importance of volunteering, interact with others, and to have a chance to run a sled dog team. The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog race sets out from the Jackson town square January 25th and continues for nine-days before wrapping up with the junior mushers in Evanston.
