Lummis Seeks Innovation In Budget
The partisan battling over the federal budget continues today in Washington as the brink of the so-called “fiscal cliff” looms closer. Wyoming’s US Representative Cynthia Lummis told Jackson Hole Radio News she sees the answer in smaller government, not in higher taxes – and that may mean turning over the management of some federal lands over to states like Wyoming. Lummis says, “We can’t go on funding government at these levels unless we have massively more tax revenue, and I am opposed to having such a large federal presence.” Lummis suggests allowing the states to manage lands currently overseen by the BLM and similar agencies while still retaining National Parks under federal management since they are, in her words “definitely a national resource.” Lummis says she would be open to a compromise solution if the ultimate package includes significant spending cuts through innovative ideas like this.
