Noble Basin Purchase Completed

Noble Basin

The Trust for Public Land, working with a broad coalition of environmental organizations, concerned citizens, and more than 1,000 donors, have announced the necessary funds were successfully raised and the transaction to purchase oil and gas leases on 58,000 acres of sensitive land in Wyoming’s Hoback Basin was completed.   Northern Rockies Regional Director Deb Love calls the effort “community-based conservation at its finest.” TPL announced October 4th that a total of $8.75 million would be needed to be raised prior to December 31st to meet the purchase deadline. Approximately 85 percent of the acquired leases fall within the boundaries of the Wyoming Range Legacy Act drafted by Wyoming’s Senator at the time Craig Thomas.  Love says the Trust for Public Land is now working with the US Forest Service to complete the paperwork that will forever retire those leases under the purview of the Forest Service and preserve the land for hunting, fishing, and recreation.

The SuperWife and I took the kids fishing on Labor Day. Usually, going fishing on a holiday is a bad idea. There tend to be crowds just about everywhere you go. But even on a national day off, you can avoid having to share space with other anglers if you get well off the beaten […]

  • The Grizzlies Won’t Be a Pushover [AUDIO] - August 29, 2014
The Wyoming Cowboys open up their football season at home against Montana tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon in Laramie.  It’s the first meeting between the two schools since 1997, and the Grizzlies enter the game as the fifth-ranked team in the FCS. On defense, the Cowboys top priority is to stop the run.  With a talented quarterback […]
  • Warmer Temperatures With Isolated Thunderstorms Expected Today - August 29, 2014
A weak ridge of high pressure will build over the region today, which will allow temperatures to become warmer and closer to average statewide.  However, some lingering low-level moisture and daytime heating could trigger a few hit or miss thunderstorms for the afternoon and early evening hours.  Gusty winds and lots of lightning will be […]
