Red Rock Ranch

The Jackson Hole Land Trust has announced the addition of 153 newly-protected acres at Red Rock Ranch located about 12 miles up the Gros Ventre Drainage. This is the third donated conservation easement at Red Rock Ranch, which has been owned and operated as a guest ranch by the MacKenzie family since 1974. The 640-acre ranch is one of about a dozen inholdings located above Lower Slide Lake, surrounded by Bridger-Teton National Forest land and adjacent to the Gros Ventre Wilderness. The new easement protects 153 acres of the southern portion of Red Rock Ranch, adding to the 320 acres already protected by the MacKenzie family at the ranch through conservation easements held by the Land Trust. The area is made up of sagebrush grassland, willows, and pasture land for horses, while Crystal Creek meanders through this parcel of the ranch. The area also provides habitat for bald eagles, elk, mule deer, antelope, moose, and native cutthroat trout. Additionally, the property is located near a pronghorn antelope migration route known to be the primary access to Grant Teton National Park.
