Snowmobilers Rescued On Togwotee
Teton County Search and Rescue was called to Togwotee Pass Friday afternoon to aid in the evacuation of a group of snowmobilers who had become stuck in a drainage near Angle Mountain. Search and Rescue Coordinator Doug Meyer says the group of five visitors from Nebraska and Iowa haddescended into a draw and could not get back out. After numerous unsuccessful attempts, they used a cell phone and called for help. Meyer says rescuers responded to GPS coordinates relayed by the group and found nothing. With the help of the search and rescue helicopter, they were later able to locate the group about three to four miles north of the coordinates given. Meyer says rescue personnel were able to help them extricate their machines and return to civilization by Friday evening. Meyer says the five were cold, but otherwise unhurt in the incident. He says this is the first such mission this year.
