Salvation Army Kettles Yield Nearly $20K

Donations to the familiar red Salvation Army Kettles in Jackson Hole this year have been tallied now and total slightly less than $20-thousand.  That, says Smokey Rhea of the local Salvation Army Chapter is a slight increase from 2011 despite the collections being made for one week fewer than the previous year.  Rhea says the needs of the past few years have been steadily increasing and the local chapter of the Salvation Army has been having to dip into its reserves to meet local needs, meaning the chapter is actually in a negative cash flow.  Rhea says the local chapter has two fundraising drives each year which include the traditional kettle drive and another during the Old Bill’s Fun Run campaign.  She points out that, funds are solicited on behalf of the Salvation Army at other times, but those funds benefit regional and national needs rather than local.  Rhea says those wishing to donate to the Salvation Army may do so anytime by contacting the local chapter directly, even when no solicitation is taking place.  Funds gathered by the local chapter remain in the community for local needs.
