Wyo Budget Approved on Second Reading
The Wyoming Legislature concluded the 2nd reading of the supplemental budget bill yesterday. The supplemental budget makes over $60 million in cuts in programs throughout state government, but appropriates close to $80 million in new spending, including $55 million toward building a new Engineering Building at the University of Wyoming. State Representative Keith Gingery of Jackson Hole offered a budget amendment to remove the $55 million for the new engineering building. Gingery argued that it does not make sense to make over $60 million in cuts to programs ranging from mental health, developmental preschools, unemployed worker training, but then turn around and give UW nearly that amount toward a new engineering building. Gingery’s amendment failed.
