Hospital Wants New MRI
St. John’s Medical Center in Jackson is shopping for a new magnetic resonance imaging system, and approved over two-million dollars last week for that purchase. The current proposal is for a Siemens Magnetom Area, the market’s only 2nd Generation Wide-bore System. The system is more patient-friendly with more space, shorter scan times and shorter breath-holds. It will also allow options for expanded services including cardiac, surgical planning, full-body oncology exams and angiography. Funding for the project was approved for up to $2,200,000 which includes space redesign, all MRI equipment and accessories, de-installation/installation, and mobile MRI coach. It is hoped the machine can be in place by this summer.
