Elk Feeding At The Refuge Increase
The National Elk Refuge reports there are now 6,285 elk on feed in the southern portion of the refuge with cows, calves and spikes vastly outnumbering the bulls. Still, flights over the area by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department indicate there are significant numbers of elk on the northern end of the refuge not accessing the feed further south – many of them calves. Still others are being spotted off the refuge entirely. At the same time, some 830 bison are on the refuge with relatively few off feed right now.
