Skijoring Registration Today
Final touches are being put on the track at Melody Ranch today in preparation for the Skijoring event hosted by the Jackson Hole Shriners Saturday and Sunday. The event is among the culminating events for Jackson Hole’s Third Annual WinterFest, and money raised will help benefit the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. Shrine President Rod Everett says the event is fast-moving and exciting. He says it is not like the cutter races with Calcutta betting are placed between each racer because there is not enough time. Organizers say they hope to have 15 teams registered in each of their three events. Everett says, “On phone calls alone before today, I’ve had at least 25 horses and teams that have called and indicated they’re coming.” He says they won’t know exactly how many will be in the race until registration takes place Friday night at the Elks Club. This marks the first time in about a decade that Skijoring has been an event in Jackson Hole. Races begin at 12:30 pm both days.
