No Pilot Test In Teton County

Teton County will not be among the school districts participating this spring in a pilot test conducted by the Wyoming Department of Education to determine if that test should be used to assure the state’s assessments align with the national Common Core State Standards.  Teton County Superintendent Pam Shea says the reason for not participating is primarily because it would not inform district teachers or students about the results.  Furthermore, students will be taking the writing assessment in May and school officials believe that the additional test would contribute to their testing fatigue.  The pilot test is being administered in 15 Wyoming districts in addition to the required state assessments currently in place.  Altogether, nearly 7,000 students in 15 districts will be taking part in the pilot testing along with one-million students nationwide.  A second round for the test is planned again next year after researchers make adjustments from what they discover in their experiment with the instrument this year.
