Wireless Not Replacing Landlines Yet

cell phone

A poplular trend these days is for people to replace their traditional landline telephone service with wireless phones, or Internet-based phones. However, for thousands of Wyomingites outside of cell and broadband service range, such a shift isn’t an option. Also, those who prefer a landline to a wireless phone because of potentially hazardous health effects will still have that option…for now.  Ana Montes of The Utility Reform Network points out that the concern with the alternative phone service is it is based on Internet-protocol or “I-P” which can lose connectivity in the event of an emergency-related power outage. Montes says, “In many instances where there have been emergencies, people have relied upon pay phones, people have relied on landline telephone service. And if we were to switch over to an entirely IP-based network, we could end up being in a real mess.” Consumer groups also voice concerns that a complete shift from landline service could result in higher prices, and virtually no government monitoring or enforcement against rip-offs.

Monday night, or more accurately early Tuesday morning, there was a total lunar eclipse. And being the experienced nature photographer I am, you’d think I was ready with my camera. But you’d be wrong. The last total lunar eclipse visible in Wyoming was way back in 2009, if I’m not mistaken. So I’ve been looking […]

  • Back to normal at the trap range - April 17, 2014
By some strange luck, I shot really well last week in our trap league. But last night, I didn’t do so well. Not even close. The thing about shooting trap is that you’re bound to have good rounds once in a while. Those good nights give you hope that you’re improving. For some people, that […]
