GTNP Launches eHike

NPS Hat

A new web-based, interactive program takes viewers on an ‘eHike’ around String Lake, one of the six glacial lakes that grace the foot of the Teton Range. Park Spokesperson Jackie Skaggs says interpretive rangers from the park now are taking classroom students and visitors around the nation on a hike that features the beauty and natural features of the String Lake area through the convenience of their own personal computers.  Skaggs says those logging in will see beautiful scenery, there will be music, there will be interactive segments along the way allowing participants to learn more about the features of the visual portion of the eHike,  and there will be audio sounds of the birds and animals a hiker might see along the trail. Skaggs says this is the first of what is expected to be a series of ‘eHikes’ offering web-visitors interactive visits to various sites around Grand Teton National Park.  The virtual experiences are linked off the park’s main webpage – and participants will be able to take part in any of them without coming back in need of virtual moleskin for their feet.
