This is the weekend hundreds of area residents dress up in crazy costumes and participate in the 38th annual rite of spring called The Pole Pedal Paddle. It’s a tradition in Jackson Hole, held on the 2nd to last Saturday of skiing at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The four-event race, where contestants compete either individually or in teams, consists of an alpine ski leg, a cross-country ski leg, a bicycle leg, and a boating leg. When it was established in 1975, Pole Pedal Paddle founder Harry Baxter considered the PPP to be just a playful end to a winter at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The Pole Pedal Paddle is now a major fundraising event for the Jackson Hole Ski & Snowboard Club which seeks to provide affordable Alpine, Freeride, Nordic and Snowboard programs to Jackson youth. The event begins from the slopes of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort at 7:00 am and concludes with a whitewater leg in the Snake River Canyon in the early afternoon.
