Jackson Town Square Touted

TOJ square

It is easy for locals to take downtown Jackson for granted in their daily activities around the square.  But for those outside the community, the covered wooden walkways and antler arched town square are anything but ordinary.  Most recently, Travel and Leisure Magazine listedJackson’s George Washington Memorial Park among America’s most beautiful town squares.  Their article declares, “Four massive elk-antler arches give this square a distinctive western look. Laid out well before the scenic town was incorporated in 1914, the square is full of cottonwoods, with ski slopes for a backdrop.”  The article explains to their readers that members of the local Rotary Club and Boy Scout District collaborate to collect the antlers from fields not accessible by wagons or vehicles, and use over 1,948 antlers to construct each arch.  Many of the other squares highlighted in the article are located in the New England area with stereotypical Americana settings.

But you’d be wrong. The last total lunar eclipse visible in Wyoming was way back in 2009, if I’m not mistaken. So I’ve been looking […]

  • Back to normal at the trap range - April 17, 2014
By some strange luck, I shot really well last week in our trap league. But last night, I didn’t do so well. Not even close. The thing about shooting trap is that you’re bound to have good rounds once in a while. Those good nights give you hope that you’re improving. For some people, that […]
