Sage Grouse Strut Again

Sage-grouse

It’s that time of year again when those who venture out into the sagebrush flats may very likely witness the mating ritual of the sage grouse as the males gather on their leks – or naturally raised areas where they can be seen better by the females – make their strange call and strut around showing off their plumage. The grouse usually have a favorite spot to which they return at dawn around this time of year, searching for a mate.  Grand Teton National Park will again offer ranger-led walks into prime viewing areas at the end of April, but until then, the adventurous may wish to stealthily venture into nearby areas to witness the event – being careful not to disturb the birds.
