Under sequestration, the entrances to Yellowstone National Park were to open two weeks late. However, Spokesman Al Nash says help from Wyoming Department of Transportation plows at the East and South Entrances thanks to donations from tourism interests in the gateway communities and a little help from Mother Nature the entrances will all open on time. Now, the West Entrance will open on Friday. Because they ended up with favorable weather conditions, below average snow levels, and got the help from WYDOT which was funded by the communities, Nash says, “we were able to open this segment as originally scheduled, and we expect to open those other pieces of road on their originally-scheduled dates.” Restroom facilities will be available at Madison Junction and Old Faithful starting April 19, with pay-at- the pump fuel available 24 hours a day at both the Upper and Lower Service Stations. The Old Faithful Visitor Education Center, the Geyser Grill and the Bear Den Gift Shop will open for the season on Friday, April 26th. Meanwhile, WYDOT crews have progressed to six miles north of the South Entrance now after experiencing several break-downs of the rotary plow late last week due to ice build-up and more than five feet of snow on the road.
