Construction of a 30,000 square foot Wyoming Army National Guard readiness center near Star Valley High School, in Afton, will replace a 1950’s built complex and provide Lincoln County with key structures in case of a disaster. Lt. Col. Guy Beaudoin says the town of Afton, Lincoln County, and the Wyoming Military Department have worked in close order to find a suitable site for the project; one that supports the Guard’s mission, and the communities’ needs in the event the facility would be required to support an emergency in the area. Local officials say they have named Jackson as one of the communities that would be served out of the armory in an emergency. The new readiness center, along with a 12,000 square foot storage building, is to be designed to withstand earthquakes. The cost of the new facility is $13.6 million, including design and construction, with the federal government paying $10.2 million and the state paying $3.4 million.
